Work and cycling -the best tactic

consolidating work and cycling

Not everyone is lucky enough to make a living riding a bike (despite all the problems with cycling; doping, crappy pay, hard lifestyle, accidents) it's still an awesome way of living.

For those not so lucky to live from cycling, it's possible to perform at nearly the same level as a full time cyclist:

  • Quality work. We covered this before in 'effort laziness' quality work is worth a lot more than junk mileage.
  • The endurance facet of training  is worked at the same time as doing quality work.
  • A long ride once a week (4-5h) is sufficient to prime your endurance.
  • Endurance training, paradoxically doesn't need to involve long hours, following recent research in the area.
  • Commuting by bicycle becomes an invaluable part of the daily routine of the working cyclist. This saves times and money, while promoting health and fitness.
  • A training camp  at least a week in length 2-3 weeks before a major event is sufficient to prime over all condition for event very demanding events.

I'm training at couple of full time workers, it's a hard but rewarding job.  Where I seek to improve their performance both on and off the bike.
